What Scalar Actually Does

An honest look at scalar wave technology, including what it doesn't do.

"Scalar" gets used loosely across the wellness industry. Here's what it means for Zazen's own products, stated as plainly as we can — including where the evidence is still preliminary, and what the technology does not do.

At its simplest, a "scalar" device is built to emit a very specific, very low-frequency field rather than the higher-frequency broadcast signals most of us associate with consumer electronics. That's a design choice, worth explaining plainly before getting into what the device is actually verified to do.

What a Scalar Core is

The Zazen Scalar Core is a generator built to emit a low-frequency field, specified in our own technical documentation at 7.83 Hz. It comes in two sizes — the 300 Core, rated to cover roughly 25 by 25 feet, and the 500 Core, roughly 30 by 30 feet — and both are designed to run continuously rather than in timed sessions. The underlying generator design was developed in 2008 and launched in 2014, and is covered by a patent application, PCT WO 2017/026889 A2. A patent is a filing that protects a design — it isn't a peer-reviewed study, and we don't present it as one.

What it doesn't do

To be direct about it: a Zazen Scalar Core does not block or shield electromagnetic fields (EMF) in a room, and it is not a medical device for diagnosing or treating any condition. We'd rather say that clearly than let the name imply more than the device does.

What we can honestly say about outcomes

The clearest evidence we have on our own Scalar products comes from a small, preliminary study run with Universiti Putra Malaysia, using the Scalar I-Wear and a standard sleep-quality questionnaire over three weeks. It found some real, specific improvements alongside several measures that did not reach significance — we've written up exactly what it did and didn't show in its own article, rather than compress a preliminary study into a bullet point.

The credentials that are real

The Scalar I-Wear also carries a Malaysian testing certification — MOSTI/2025/STI202500861, dated 14 March 2025. Like the patent, this is a verifiable regulatory credential about testing and registration status, not a claim about clinical benefit. We list both because they're true and checkable, not because they prove an effect. We'd rather a customer know the difference between a spec sheet and a clinical trial than blur the two for a better-sounding pitch.
