Every company has an origin story. Zazen's starts with one person paying closer attention to his own health, long before "wellness" was a section in a shopping mall.
A personal starting point
Before Zazen existed, its founder and chairman, Dhyan Vimal, was simply looking for a more direct way to look after his own wellbeing. He came across far-infrared sauna technology, tried it for himself, and thought other people in Malaysia should have access to it too. Zazen Health Solutions Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated in April 2006 to do exactly that.
Building outward
From that first cabin, Zazen built partnerships across Malaysia and, over time, further afield — Opt For Light in Sarasota, Florida; Wellsource Naturopathic in Scottsdale, Arizona; Zazen Health Solutions Europe AB near Stockholm; MagnifiZen in Zurich; and the Dhyana Centre in Vancouver. The cabins themselves are still built from Canadian hemlock, in a Standard size for one or two people and a larger Family size for three or four — the same basic idea as that first cabin, just refined over nearly two decades. In 2009, the company picked up its first public recognition: a Malaysia Business Leadership Award, and a Malaysia Spa & Wellness Award for Best Wellness Equipment, given to the Zazen Far Infrared Thermal System.
From heat to scalar
The company's second technology, the Zazen Scalar generator, was developed in 2008 and launched in 2014, and is covered by a patent application, PCT WO 2017/026889 A2. More recently, the Scalar I-Wear — a wearable version of the same generator technology — received a Malaysian testing certification (MOSTI/2025/STI202500861) in March 2025, and was the subject of a preliminary sleep-quality study with Universiti Putra Malaysia the same year.
Where it stands today
Nearly twenty years on, Zazen still makes both product lines — far-infrared cabins and Scalar devices — from the same starting question: what would make it easier for people to actually rest? That question is also part of why these Articles exist: to keep explaining the products honestly, article by article, rather than through a single glossy brochure.
